Time- and Wisdom-Based Advising
Jyotish: Vedic Astrology
Jyotish is a living, lineage-based astrological wisdom tradition: a profound synthesis of philosophy and technique enlivened by the spark of transmission from teacher to student.
Rooted in Indian tradition but open to all, Jyotish offers a royal road to self-understanding — and from that, to alignment with reality. As the Aghori Vimalānanda once said, “It’s better to live with reality, because otherwise without fail, reality will come live with you.”
A distant cousin to what most in the West know as astrology, jyotish provides nothing less than a map and compass by which to navigate the world.
Astrology, But Not As You Know it
"Astrology is astronomy brought down to earth and applied to the affairs of men." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
For those familiar with Western astrology, Jyotish may seem familiar: planets, signs, and houses all appear here, too. But the framework — and its effects — are fundamentally different. Jyotish looks beyond personality or psychology. Its capacity is to trace threads of karma and fate as they unfold over time. Known for the precision of its predictions, one of its central purposes is to “avert the danger that has not yet come.”
As the science of time and calendrics, jyotish has several branches: from the more familiar jātaka (natal astrology) to praśna (horary astrology, consulting a chart to answer a question), muhūrta (selecting an auspicious moment to begin an important work) and nimitta (the interpretation of omens or meaningful coincidences).
Millions of Southasians structure their activities taking into account this venerable art and science; now, jyotish is growing in the West as we, too, start recognize the extraordinary gifts it offers.

Lineage
My work is grounded in a living lineage of Jyotish. I am trained by Penny Farrow, Claudia Anfuso and Pursottam Dabasia through the The Cosmic Kaleidoscope jyotish sangha (for which I am a Teaching Assistant). Upstream from my esteemed teachers are Hart de Fouw (co-author of Light on Life: An Introduction to the Astrology of India) and his guru, Mantri-ji, as well as K.N. Rao, Seshadri Iyer and on back to Parāśara, Mantreśwara and the rishis.

"I'm a therapist and teacher, and I've met a lot of people in the world of healing arts. I keep coming back to Djed because I've never met someone else like him or with his skillset. If I'm mulling over a move or leaving a job, I will do a session with him. He helps me consult the universe and get that mirroring feedback that I'm looking for, that last percentage of clarity I need in order to feel confident about the next big choice." - Timothy
